Welcome to Year 2

A very warm welcome to the Year 2 page of our website. Here we will be sharing the wonderful learning that takes place in Year 2. It also details key information and guidance about our routines and expectations to help you support your child with their learning. We are really looking forward to getting to know your child and working together with you to help them learn and grow.

Meet the Year 2 Team

We have two classes in Year 2, Hedgehogs and Otters.

Mrs Collis teaches Hedgehogs with Mrs Ashworth providing PPA cover on Wednesday afternoons.

Mrs McClive teaches Otters on Mondays, Tuesdays and alternating Wednesdays and Mrs Weaver teaches Otters on Thursdays, Fridays and alternating Wednesdays.

Mrs Watkins and Miss Pillinger will be supporting both classes this year. Miss C-B will also be supporting in Hedgehogs class. Mrs Kemp and Mrs Elford will be supporting in Otters class.

As a team, we are looking forward to working with your children and are excited to share their journey with you. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing the correct uniform each day. This helps to foster a sense of pride and belonging to our school family and reflects the high standards we are trying to achieve for every child. Knowledge Organisers and Science Glossaries

Below you can find the Knowledge Organisers and Science Glossaries for our geography, history and science units. This will be updated throughout the year.

Our school Homework Policy can be found under Curriculum Policies

In Year 2, pupils are encouraged to engage with up to 1 hour and 30 minutes homework a week.

 This should consist of:

• Home reading, ideally a short burst daily but a minimum of 4 reads per week. This should be recorded by an adult in the home reading record.
• Maths - Numbots and TT Rockstars (Spring Term onwards)
• Weekly spellings
• Retrieval practice – Various activities will be set by the teacher to help the children to consolidate the learning they are doing in class. This will include the use of the Knowledge Organisers and Science Glossaries.
