Our Vision for the Whiteoak's Curriculum

At the Whiteoak Academies, our curriculum is at the heart of who we are and everything we do. Guided and shaped by our vision, values and motto, Planting Dreams. Nurturing hearts. Growing minds., we strive to design and build a curriculum that gives our children a deep and connected knowledge and understanding of who they are, where they have come from and what they might become.

As a school family, we recognise that improving educational outcomes is the biggest way we can positively impact our children’s futures. However, we believe strongly that education is much more than just a set of results. It includes children’s intellectual growth, social and emotional development, citizenship and responsibility, happiness and success. We strive for our vision to be lived in the way teachers develop the curriculum and the way children experience it. We want a curriculum that is effectively designed and implemented, that is true to subjects’ core content and concepts and develops a love of lifelong learning that encourages beautiful work, expertise, fascination and wonder.

Our Curriculum Aims - The Whiteoak Way

As a family of schools, we have created our own Whiteoak Way, a curriculum that supports and encourages our children to develop into well-rounded individuals ready for the challenges of the 21st century.

The aims of our curriculum are that each and every child at the Whiteoak Academies thrives by becoming:

  • Knowledgeable & Curious
  • Respectful & Compassionate
  • Independent & Fulfilled

Our Curriculum Design

From little acorns, mighty oaks do grow.

At the Whiteoak Academies, we strive to ensure our curriculum and enrichment activities are designed to help our children develop strong roots with an excellent grasp of the basics needed for success. For each curriculum subject, we have designed and created our own Whiteoak Way to help ensure our children are not merely covering content, but engage enthusiastically and achieve a depth to their learning which enables them to use their knowledge and understanding across the curriculum.

Furthermore, our curriculum is designed to give our children the opportunity to explore philosophical questions and important issues whilst considering how they can make a difference. Indeed, across our family of schools, our curriculum has been carefully crafted to ensure that our children are not only successful academically but also that they learn how to live successful and happy lives where they are informed, courageous advocates of the things that matter to them.

The Whiteoak curriculum is designed and sequenced to give our children deep, coherent knowledge that will empower them to know where they came from, who they are and what they might become. Knowledge and understanding is developed and revisited within year groups, across subjects and throughout the school. As our children grow and build their knowledge and understanding, they are supported and challenged to apply what they know in increasingly complex ways. Ultimately, our curriculum is designed with the aim that our children know more, remember more and are able to do more with their knowledge as they progress through our family of schools.
