🤗 Hello and Welcome to Year 5 🤗
We would like to take this opportunity to say hello and a big warm welcome to Year 5.
We have many exciting things planned for the year and hope your children will share these experiences with you on a regular basis.
The class teachers in Year 5 are:
Maple - Mrs McClive (Mon, Tues & Weds), Ms Fiore (Thurs & Fri).
Rowan - Dr. Hardwidge.
P.P.A. is covered by:
Miss Brock (Monday p.m.) and Miss Flemming (Friday p.m.) in Maple.
Mrs Powell in Rowan (Monday p.m.).
TA’S are Miss Brock, Mrs Martin and Miss Watts.
Children may bring in one small pencil case with items such as: pencils, pencil crayons, ruler, rubber and glue stick.
PE days and kit
On PE days, children are encouraged to come to school in their PE kit.
Please see the school uniform policy for more information on kit (see link at the bottom of this page).
Maple - Tuesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor).
Rowan - Tuesday (indoor) and Wednesday (outdoor).
Times Table Rock Stars - games and challenges.
Maths tasks (when appropriate).
In Year 5 this year, our History and Geography topics will be:
Why were the Vikings lords of the sea? (History)
Is it too late to save the rainforest? (Geography)
How did the great kingdom of Benin end? (History)
Tundra or Taiga, in which biome should I roam? (Geography)
Was King Henry VIII the most important Tudor? (History)
Location, location, location: why is location important? (Geography)
The expectation is that children in Year 5 are fluent in their recall of the times tables facts up to 12 x 12 and the corresponding division facts.
Regular practise and review helps keep skills sharp.
There are many different ways of learning these such as: web-based games (such as TTRS), singing and rote format.
We love to keep you up to date with what we are doing in class and you will find regular updates on our Class Dojo pages. If you wish to speak to your child’s class teacher, please make an appointment via the school office or through Class Dojo.
