Special Educational Needs and Disabilities - SEND
"Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way."
- George Evans -
At the Whiteoak Academies we are an inclusive family of schools and warmly welcome pupils with Special Educational Needs. We provide an inclusive education for all of our pupils which meets their individual needs and removes barriers to learning. We aim for all of our children to be independent, reflective and enthusiastic learners who grow to be happy and compassionate adults.
Within our family of schools, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum which both inspires and encourages independent learning. Within this curriculum we welcome and support all of our children, no matter their level of ability. Whether they have exceptional abilities and talents, face particular challenges in their learning, or have medical or emotional needs, we ensure everyone is included by using a tailored approach to meet the needs of each child. Our staff build nurturing partnerships with pupils and parents, as a solid foundation to encourage them to aim high and achieve their very best, within a supportive environment.
"If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn."
- Dr O. Ivar Iovaas -
In line with our school motto; "Planting Dreams, Nurturing Hearts and Growing Minds" we ensure that our staff have regular training and professional development related to Special Educational Needs and staff are able to access a range of support from professionals with a wide range of expertise. We work regularly with an Educational Psychologist and the LSP Advisory Teacher for SEND.
We have an Academies Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), Mrs Abby Murray, who has completed the mandatory National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination and has a PGCE in SEN and Inclusion. We also have two SEND Governors, Mrs Jacci Ramplin and Mrs Susan Arthur. Our SENCO works closely with staff, parents and pupils to ensure the correct academic and pastoral support and provision is in place for each individual pupil and their families. Our SENCO's working days are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Contact details are at the bottom of this page.
