PSHE - The Whiteoak Way
‘There are two gifts we should give our children: one is roots and the other is wings’
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
At The Whiteoak Academies we value PSHE as one way to support children’s development as human beings, to enable them to understand and respect who they are, to empower them with a voice and to equip them for life and learning. We teach Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) as a whole-school approach to underpin children’s development as people and because we believe that this also supports their learning journey to build their knowledge year on year.
PSHE sessions at The Whiteoak Academies provide an opportunity to help our children and young people develop the key building blocks of respectful relationships with friends and family and how to be healthy. Our school values of kindness, resilience, courage, belonging and friendship are weaved in our curriculum and children’s wellness is more important than ever in the challenging times we are facing.
We understand the importance of children recognising differences and celebrating self-identity, being healthy, setting goals, building healthy relationships and understanding how their bodies change as they grow. We use the Jigsaw scheme of work to cover all of these aspects in a coherent and progressive way and also includes British Values in lessons.
We love creating themed days such as ‘Wellness week’ to reach out in the community and learn about the wider world and being safe in it. The RNLI workshops are always a favourite and we have had visits from the Dog’s Trust as well as special guest fitness instructors to enhance children’s learning. We love to be creative in our learning and encourage the children to express themselves in a variety of different ways. Look out for whole school projects such as our decorative fish pebbles on the way up to our reception area based on the book ‘Only One You’ by Linda Kranz.
PSHE at The Whiteoak Academies is always an adventure!
