PSHE - The Whiteoak Way
‘There are two gifts we should give our children: one is roots and the other is wings’
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
At The Whiteoak Academies we value PSHE as one way to support children’s development as human beings, to enable them to understand and respect who they are, to empower them with a voice and to equip them for life and learning. We teach Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) as a whole-school approach to underpin children’s development as people and because we believe that this also supports their learning journey to build their knowledge year on year.
PSHE sessions at The Whiteoak Academies provide an opportunity to help our children and young people develop the key building blocks of respectful relationships with friends and family and how to be healthy. Our school values of kindness, resilience, courage, belonging and friendship are weaved in our curriculum and children’s wellness is more important than ever in the challenging times we are facing.
We understand the importance of children recognising differences and celebrating self-identity, being healthy, setting goals, building healthy relationships and understanding how their bodies change as they grow. We use the Jigsaw scheme of work to cover all of these aspects in a coherent and progressive way and also includes British Values in lessons.
