Lime Class page
Lime class have had a great first term of Year 4 and have settled back in to school life very well. The children have been enjoying a range of exciting topics in their learning. This has culminated most recently in creating leaflets about their own civilisations based on the book 'Weslandia' and an exciting Roman day to celebrate the end of our History topic on the ancient Romans. You can take a look at some of the children's fantastic work below, as well as our newly-decorated classroom!
Information on our class routines can be found further down the page; I will also send reminders via class Dojo. Please feel free to also contact me via Dojo should you have any questions.
Lime Class Info
We encourage the children to read at home, 5 times per week. This term, we are using reading record sheets for the children to bring home and record their reading at home. The children will bring their reading sheet home on Mondays and should return it to school the following Monday. On this sheet, you will find further information about reading at home, supporting your child with their reading and access to Bug Club.
The children have been given a sheet of their spelling lists for the second half of the Autumn term. We will test spellings in school on Thursdays, beginning with the 'week 1' list on Thursday 17th September.
Year 4 Times Tables
The National Curriculum states that times tables are a key mathematical skill that children should know by the end of year 4.
In the summer term, year 4 children will have a statutory times table test. They will need to know their times tables up to 12x. This will be an online test where children will have 6 seconds to answer each randomly generated question.
In school, we will be practising times tables on a daily basis using a variety of strategies. Each week, children will have a focus times table. Once they have mastered this, they will move on to the next one in our new Year 4 version of the Diamond Challenge. The order in which children will tackle the times tables is: 10, 5, 2, 4, 8, 3, 6, 12, 11, 7, 9.
At home, it would be really helpful if you could support children to practise their focus table - and others if you wish! You could do this by encouraging them to use Times Table Rockstars or any of the websites and strategies listed below. Although division won’t be included in the test at the end of the year, it would still be useful to include division questions as you help your child learn their tables.
A good grasp of the times tables is a key skill in Maths and will support children throughout their mathematical learning.
Mrs Knight teaches Games on Friday mornings. On Fridays, children should come to school wearing their full PE kit. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for outdoor PE (jogging bottoms, fleece and/or waterproof coat).
Earrings need to be removed for every sporting activity (including swimming) for Health & Safety reasons. If you wish your child to keep their earrings in, please obtain and complete a permission slip from the school office.
