Home Learning During Lockdown and Beyond
At The Whiteoak Academies we continue to support our families in as many ways as possible and this page has all of the information you need in one place. This page will change and evolve based on the changes we face as a school community and will be regularly updated.
From September we are looking forward to welcoming back all of our pupils, in each of the 7 Year Groups, including our new Reception children. Our plans are currently being finalised and will be shared with you as soon as they are confirmed and are in line with the current North Somerset COVID 19 situation.
Please check your emails and this web-page regularly to make sure you have the latest updates as they are released.

What will happen if we have a 'Local Lock-down' enforced after September 2020?
As the pandemic progresses and changes, it would appear that rather than the whole country "going in to Lock-down" as we previously did in March 2020, Local Authorities will be able to enforce "Local Lock-downs" in isolated areas across the country. If North Somerset enters an enforced "Local Lock-down" we will of course need to respond swiftly.
During the last few weeks of the summer term our Year 2, 3, 4, and 5 pupils who were learning from home, had the opportunity to see their class teachers and class mates via Microsoft TEAMS. This had two functions; to enable the children to 'meet up' virtually and for teachers to become familiar with the technology required should we enter "Local Lock-down". These meetings went well and had a positive response from both staff and pupils. This would mean that we are now in a position to utilise this technology should we need to in the future. Alongside virtual learning all of the schools in the Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP) will continue working together to produce any 'Home Learning' activities for their schools. The LSP created format, with a broad curriculum coverage with something for everyone on it, will be used again to support our pupils if required. This gives consistency and coverage over the LSP. It ensures a variety of areas are covered well and it allows individual schools to adapt and modify tasks so that there is inclusion for all pupils. As before, it will be a 'menu' where you would be able to select the activities with your child to complete in the week.
We continue to be very mindful of the pressure that homeschooling could create on top of the requirement for parents / carers to be working from home and we do not want to add to this. Therefore our 'Home Learning' would remain as a 'Menu' for parents / carers and pupils to select the learning tasks they would like to complete each day. We would still like to encourage each child to take part in:
* Reading/short phonic activities. - Each child will have a "Bug Club" account to access appropriate reading materials. (Your child's Class Teacher will be able to help with any issues arising from this.)
* Mental maths task (Number Bonds, Morning Maths and Times Table Rock Stars etc.)
* Maths tasks via "White Rose" - https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/
* Writing tasks over a number of days, once or twice a week, depending upon the activity from the Oak National Academy website - https://www.thenational.academy/
* Tasks from across the wider curriculum, such as Science, History, Geography etc...
* Tasks aimed at promoting WELLBEING and fitness.
The learning is always available on each Year Group website page and the links below will take you straight to your child's specific Year Group. Everything you need should be there but if you have any questions please do get in touch with your child's point of contact via Dojo.
Who can I ask for support with Home Learning?
As before we will have Class Dojo for Years 1 - 6 and Tapestry for our Reception children. If you have an urgent question please send an email to email@example.com or use the form below and it will be directed to the person you need. Home Learning will continue to be uploaded to the website in the usual way so please take a look.
FAQs for parents about Home Learning written by the LSP
Keeping in touch...
To stay in touch with your child's Class Teacher, you are still able to use "Class Dojo" or "Tapestry" if your child is in Reception. Please continue to use the direct messaging service on this APP to contact Class Teachers with questions, queries and to share photographs of the activities and tasks you have been completing at home. We can't wait to see all of the interesting things you have been learning about!
Please try and get in touch with your child's Class Teacher, at least once a week via "Class Dojo" or "Tapestry". If we do not hear from you, your child's Class Teacher will get in touch just to "check-in" that all is well at home. This could be by "Class Dojo", "Tapestry" or by telephone. We are just calling to check everyone in the family are well and if we can help or support in any way.
How to get in touch...
If you are unable to access 'Class Dojo', and would like to get in touch, please email the school office by completing the form below. They will then redirect your email to the appropriate member of staff. You can also use this form if you have a Safeguarding Concern you would like to share. We would like to point out that confidentiality is maintained at all times. Our school office is also able to take telephone calls during office hours on the usual number : 01275 851127
