Anglo Saxon Crafts
In our History this term, we are investigating whether the Anglo Saxons were skilled craftsmen. This week, Year 4 have drawn pictures of intricate Anglo Saxon crafts and made their own swords!
On Thursday 22nd October, we celebrated the end of our History topic about the ancient Romans with a Roman Day!
We discussed Roman battles and weaponry, going on to make our own Roman shields. Earlier in the term, we had learnt about ancient Roman food so it was exciting to be able to taste some Roman delicacies. The olives and dates got a mixed reaction, while the honey cakes were very popular!
In the afternoon, we had a visit from an ancient Roman soldier! He told us all about Roman battles, told us some stories about Roman Gods and Goddesses and even showed us what Roman toilets would have been like.
Have a look at some pictures of our exciting day below!
Our Roman Artefacts
Over half term, the children were set the challenge of designing and making their own ancient Roman artefacts, following on from their learning about the ancient Romans in the first part of the Autumn term. Last week, the children showed off their amazing artefacts and their hard work! They ranged from model aqueducts and Roman bath houses to sponges on sticks, mosaic tiles and weaponry. It was lovely to see how proud they all were of their creations!
